Luke 6:37-45

In Luke 6:37–45, Jesus teaches his disciples how to make disciples without falling into either harsh judgmentalism or a “judgment-free” approach that ignores sin. True discipleship begins with compassion and generosity toward others, reflecting the grace and mercy believers have received in Christ. At the same time, Jesus teaches that spiritual growth requires honest evaluation, because disciples need help seeing their blind spots and areas where they must grow. However, correction must always begin with self-examination—removing the “log” from our own eye before addressing the “speck” in someone else’s. As believers pursue holiness in their own lives, they are then able to lovingly and gently help others grow, creating a church culture that is both gracious and committed to Christlike maturity.
