Luke 6:1-11

In Luke 6:1–11, we see the deadly danger of legalism and the glory of Christ revealed in two Sabbath confrontations. The Pharisees’ rigid devotion to their man-made rules blinded them to the reality that Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath, the Lawgiver standing before them. By appealing to David and boldly declaring Himself “Lord of the Sabbath,” Jesus makes clear that He has divine authority over the Law. When He heals the man with the withered hand, He also shows that He alone rightly interprets the Law, teaching that it is always lawful to do good and save life. Ultimately, Luke calls us to reject self-righteous legalism and instead trust in Christ, the one who fulfills the Law and provides the righteousness we could never earn.

  1. Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath. (1-5)
  2. Jesus is the interpreter of the Law. (6-11)
